Aya Ait Oukhaddou

My work is inspired by the dark aspects of humanity that I observe and things I view to be eye-catching. I then combine what catches my attention with morbid imagery coming from my imagination as I feel a sense of need to express the more taboo subjects that make people feel uneasy or uncomfortable. However, I also simply just want to showcase dark imagery in its literal sense since I tend to look at the darker side of people, events, or life.

I will always begin my creative process with multiple brainstorming sketches. I will then decide on the ones that satisfy me the most and refine them in order to make a final decision on the one that feels right for the project. I mainly work with graphite and ink since a focused medium is ideal for me while working on a piece. Each of my works reflects my psyche and the emotions that compel me to create the work. I decide when my work is completed only when my intuition lets me know it’s finished.
